Roadcider 2023: Orange is a dry, bottle-fermented cider made from a thoughtful blend of traditional cider apple varieties grown at Borrodell Orchard, one of the most diverse apple orchards in Australia. This year’s blend includes Kingston Black, Dabinett, Somerset Redstreak, and Bramley—apples prized for their balance of tannin, acid, and aromatic complexity. These later-harvest varieties bring depth and structure to the cider, with floral aromatics, spice, and subtle smoky notes layered over a vibrant apple backbone.
Fermented naturally with a pied de cuvée starter and finished to dryness, the cider sits at a robust 8.2% ABV. It underwent secondary fermentation in bottle, giving it a lively sparkle and a fine, creamy mousse. The tannins from the bittersweet and bittersharp apples lend a lightly drying, textured finish, making this cider feel more like a skin-contact pét-nat or a dry sparkling wine than a conventional apple cider.
There’s no residual sweetness here—just crisp acidity, earthy complexity, and a sense of place. Roadcider 2023: Orange is a product of both wild foraging roots and the rare opportunity to work with dedicated cider-variety fruit. It’s expressive and layered, with year-on-year evolution part of its charm. Ideal for wine-lovers curious about cider’s broader potential or anyone seeking something nuanced and bone-dry
