Taittinger Les Folies de la Marquetterie

$158.00
What to expect - A full-flavoured and harmonious champagne, distinguished by a rich complexity - Pays tribute to the Taittinger family's origins and story - Pairs well with roast meats and fish The House’s very first “Champagne de Domaine”, Les Folies de la Marquetterie is a blend of Chardonnay (45%) and Pinot noir (55%), made exclusively from grapes grown at the Folies vineyard that overlooks Château de la Marquetterie, the birthplace of the Taittinger family champagne. This champagne pays tribute to the House's origins and incredible story. The body is deep yellow in colour with golden highlights. The bubbles are fine and delicate. The intense, highly fruity bouquet leads onto peach and apricot conserve aromas with subtle hints of toasted brioche and vanilla. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, smooth and fruit-driven with dominant stone-fruit flavours. The distinctive and expressive finish delivers subtle tones of oak. Les Folies de la Marquetterie is a full-flavoured and harmonious champagne distinguished by its immense richness and complexity. About the House Champagne Taittinger is one of France's most celebrated champagne houses. As the epitome of French sophistication, style and grace, Champagne Taittinger celebrates the pleasures of life, believing that special moments are best enjoyed with fine champagne and great company. Revered by critics the world over and recognised as the champagne connoisseurs, Champagne Taittinger is renowned for creating wines of unmatched delicacy, elegance and finesse. Technical Details A blend of Chardonnay (45%) and Pinot Noir (55%). A “green” harvest is carried out on the selected plots of vines to ensure the fruit offers optimum sweetness and aromatic maturity. After harvesting, only the juice from the first pressing is reserved. Each plot is vinified in small volumes and certain batches in oak casks. The bottles are aged for five years to bring this wine to complete harmony. Food suggestion This “terroir” wine, structured and powerful, pays homage to the 18th century and is the ideal accompaniment to robust dishes such as roasted meats and fish in sauce Reviews This special cuvée comes from the vineyards surrounding the Château de la Marquetterie in Reims. With a part aged in wood, the wine has fine bottle aging and toastiness giving it richness as well as bringing out the ripe lemon and red-apple flavors. It is a beautifully balanced wine that is ready to drink. 94 Points Wine Enthusiast The rare NV Folies de la Marquetterie Brut has clear, fresh and subtle yet intense and super noble bouquet of fresh Pinot Noir fruit (50%) paired with the freshness and finesse of Chardonnay (50%). It is a full-bodied, round, intense and creamy textured Brut with a serious, persistent structure and the purity, finesse and elegance of Taittinger. The base wines were partly fermented in oak (30%), and malolactic fermentation was not prevented. This beautifully vinous sample was bottled in 2013 and was disgorged in January 2017 with a dosage of nine grams per liter. A great, refined and perfectly balanced Champagne with good length for a still pretty reasonable price. 93 Points Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
