Sorrenberg Beechworth Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2024 Lovely

$62.00
Every release of the Sorrenberg SBS is a cracking wine. Creamy, tangerine, floral, tart core unripe mango on the nose.  Mouthfilling, long, tangy, honeycomb, dry. It builds on finish. It is certainly lovely. I'd drink this from now, but I've had some 10-year-old examples that are so well put together. Maybe drink one a year for 12 years!  Pairing it with scallops is my tip. Sorrenberg Beechworth Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2024, and all wines are eligible for at least 5% off any six bottles. And 10% off any 12 bottles. Some wines will be at a more significant discount and not subject to further discounts. One of the wineries that I've been lucky enough to taste consistently over the years is Sorrenberg. A few years ago, I got to have lunch with Barry and Jan, followed by a barrel tasting and vineyard tour. They are humble but make amazing wine from a couple of blocks in Beechworth. For them, it is all about the growing, and the rest of the process is not messing it up. The Chardonnay is a standout for me but having cellared some of the SBS for about seven years once, I can heartily endorse that wine as well as the Cabernet and Gamay. Sorrenberg Beechworth Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2024 Winery Notes "Sorrenberg Vineyard was established in 1984. It is a 3 hectare vineyard at an elevation of 560 meters. Although the vineyard is granitic it does have the advantage of being on the border where the granite meets the red mudstone, giving the soil greater water holding capacity and the wine structure. The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region. The varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Rhino block named after Barry’s grandfathers vineyard was established in 2005 by Sorrenberg vineyard at an elevation of 595 meters. This is a dry grown block on granite soils. Varieties planted are Chardonnay and Gamay. Both Sorrenberg vineyard and Rhino are certified biodynamic." Beechworth The region that was a gold and prison town long before it was famous for wine. Beechworth has a lot to offer wine lovers. With a good diversity of styles from rich Chardonnay to Pinot Noir as well as Shiraz and Cabernet all doing well it is a must visit. Giaconda is the most famous name in the region but other wineries have crafted reputations for quality. Serious work into the terroirs has seen that Beechworth is probably in fact three or four distinct regions. Sauvignon Blanc Sauvignon Blanc sure does divide people. The pure expression of Sauvignon fruit is a stunning and exuberant array of tropical fruits with ripe herbs and plant material. It excels in the chalk, clay and sand of the Loire as well as the beautiful vineyards in Bordeaux for dry white and Sauternes production, where Semillon curbs its outgoing nature. Semillon A somewhat shy variety that is most famous for balancing Sauvignon Blanc’s overt tendencies in table wines and sauternes styles. It found a home in the Hunter where the early picked wines can live for 50 years. Australian Wine The invasion of “Sunshine in a bottle” put Australian wine on the map.  The fruity, easy-going, somewhat samey wines were endearing for a short time. Then the next big thing knocked them off their perch. This forced producers to increase quality and emphasise the distinctive terroirs of Australia. Of which, there are many. And many more yet to be discovered. Wine Wine is the result you get from fermented grape juice. There is proof of wine production dating back 8000 years ago. Fashions, innovations and many other factors have influenced the way wine has evolved over the years. The wine grape is special. It contains everything you need to make grape wine except for the yeast, which lives on the outside of the skins. Human inputs can influence the final product, including the viticulture (growing) choices. And the winemaker can shape the wine to a point too. The best wines of the world often refer to terroir. Terroir is a French term that refers to all the climatic, geological and topographical influences on a specific piece of land. And it is true that neighbouring vineyards, grown identically, can taste noticeably different. White Wine It is interesting to know that you can make white wine from almost any grape. The colour comes from the skins, and if there is no contact, there is no colour. White wines tend to be delicate, perfumed, higher in acid and lower in alcohol. It seems for this and many other reasons, it is hard to make an incredibly impressive white wine. But those that have mastered the art are indeed some of the best winemakers in the world. It is a falsehood to think that white wine does not age as well as red wine. But it is correct that white wine, as a rule, doesn’t age for as long.
