What to expect
- New arrival on Emperor Champagne!
- Boutique Champagne house in the Côte des Bar
- Tricky harvest that generated much lower yield, yet highly concentrated fruit
One of the powerhouse wines of this small family estate. In 2011 the harvest was difficult with frosts early in April reducing yield in a big way. Chardonnay in general is trickier to grow in the Côte des Bar as frost are more common.
Despite this, Remi persevered and came up with a plan to bottle various parcels that produced the best fruit and then decided to age them in oak post fermentation and then sent them into his cellar for 8 years! He says "my yields were low and however that concentrated the fruit and it has great balance with tertiary aromas coming through with subtle vanilla and cooking spice with a creamy texture and layers of richness and mineral edges." This is a rare example from Remi and we were able to secure just 6 magnums.
