Shiraz in Georgia’s Paddock in 2017 was really high cropping, but the quality was also there, says Emily Laughton, with an addendum that rain interspersed through ripening and picking drew out the season, to produce a relatively more elegant wine. “Georgia’s tends to be a more fruit driven wine”. Mellow fog of perfume, dark cherries, faint lavender, warm forest berry compote, faint mint and fennel and a whiff of clove. Moody, lovely perfume. Fleshy textured but with defined ribbons of tannin, flavours dark, brooding, earthy, and drawn long. Seamless flow, superb ‘seasoning’ of oak, velvety but with enough grip to tune the palate. Excellent wine. Drink 2018-2030 95 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
