What a run this Syberia Chardonnay has had on TWF, see here. There’s gold in them thar hills. Anyway, a cool year, from the coolest block at Hoddles, hence the name I guess. Less oak than the 1er, and bottled in the same year, waiting for it to come around. Cool, spicy and citrus laden, ginger with a certain umami flavour, some porcini and chicken stock broth. Tight, spicy and saline, distinctly powdery and chalky, a ripcord of citrus acidity, Japanese ginger, and a brisk and tight finish of excellent length. Intense and uncompromising, and really good.
