My Darling Merlot is an endearing homage to Rob Gibson’s wife, Anne.
The fruit for this 'labour of love' was sourced from our estate vineyard in Light Pass. This vineyard is planted to the ‘Gibson-Schulz Trellis’ system - a unique method of training vines, co-invented by Rob. Vines are alternately planted on a low and high cordon wire, the latter reaching over two metres in height.
The wine shows fragrant aromas of black cherry, mulberry, olive and crushed herbs with with underlying toasty oak. Whilst complex flavours of red and black cherry, bush tomato and sweet spice are all evident in the 2021 My Darling, Rob’s description of the Merlot variety is eloquently put. “At one moment soft and tender, the next firm and reassuring.”

Tasting Notes
Garnet with red hue. Lifted aromas of black cherry, mulberry, olive and crushed herbs with underlying toasty oak. Medium-bodied in style with complex flavours of red and black cherry, bush tomato, sweet spice and a gentle dusting of dried herbs, closing with long and gentle, savoury tannin.
Although we're all well aware of his love of Merlot, we can’t help but feel this is also Rob’s way of subtly describing the true darling in his life.
Gibson My Darling Merlot pairs beautifully with grilled meats such as beef, pork & lamb. You and your darling can also enjoy a glass with your favourite cheddar or blue cheese.
