DEUTZ-AMOUR-DE-DEUTZ-2011

Deutz Amour de Deutz '11

$350.00
- Complex and rich style displaying subtle floral and fresh almond aromas. - 100% Chardonnay with long ageing. - Well matched with caviar, lobster or sashimi. Inspired by the bronze cherub from which it takes its name, Amour de Deutz is a rare cuvée. It is necessary that the fairies of Champagne light up the skies of the year and bend over the cradle of Chardonnay so that, once pressed, vinified and assembled with heart and passion, the alchemy of the terroirs gives birth to "Harmony", attunement of love. Seductive with its pure and crystalline colour, Amour de Deutz is a subtle, deep and delicate cuvée, almost bewitching. A unique, refined and amazing cuvée. This Cuvée de Prestige is produced in small quantity and its "muselet" is a true jewel.   Technical Details 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Aged 8 years minimum on lees.   About the House Founded in 1838 by wine merchants William Deutz and Pierre Hubert Geldermann, Champagne Deutz is situated in one of Champagne's greatest villages, Aÿ. Today, Deutz is represented by Jean-Marc Lallier, the House's export director and a sixth generation descendent of founder William Deutz. In 1993, after many years of financial struggles, owners of Louis Roederer invested in Champagne Deutz, providing the House much needed financial stability. Since 1996 Deutz has been managed by former Louis Roederer executive Fabrice Rosset. Rosset has worked autonomously and indepently of the parent company, with the two have completely different styles and characteristics. The House predominately work with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, with only 5% of their fruit being Pinot Meunier. They work off 216 hectares of vines, however they only own 42. The rest of the grapes used in their champagne is supplied from growers whom they have longstanding relationships with. Since Rosset joined Deutz in 1996 he has grown production from a mere 570,000 bottles a year to over 2.5 million. Under Rosset's leadership Deutz ranks among the top six Champagne Houses in terms of quality. Food Pairing An exceptional aperitif champagne well matched to caviar, lobster or sashimi.   Critic Reviews A mature Champagne from a great vintage year, this is concentrated. With toast over the white fruits and with minerality still very present, the wine is taut, textured, vibrant and ready to drink. 96 Points Roger Voss
