The WR100
WineRelique's independent wine quality, valuation, and brokerage benchmark.
The WR100 score is WineRelique's proprietary wine assessment system, designed to evaluate a wine's overall quality, collectability, market demand, and investment potential. Unlike traditional wine ratings that focus solely on critic reviews, the WR100 combines wine quality with real-world market and investment factors to create a more complete picture of a wine's standing in today's marketplace.
Why WR100 Exists
Most wine scores measure only one thing: how much a critic liked the wine.
While professional quality assessment remains the foundation of any serious rating, collectors and investors also consider rarity, producer reputation, vintage quality, market demand, cellaring potential, and long-term investment performance.
WR100 was developed to bring these factors together into a single, consistent score - one that better reflects a wine's overall standing in the market.
How WR100 Is Calculated
Every wine receives a score from 0-10 across six weighted categories. These are combined using WineRelique's proprietary weighting methodology to produce the final WR100 score out of 100.
The weighting formula is a proprietary component of the WR100 engine and is not published publicly. This ensures the integrity of the scoring system and protects its value as an independent benchmark.
1. Quality
Quality is the dominant component of the WR100 score. It is based on a standardised average of recognised professional critic assessments for the exact wine and vintage being evaluated, drawn from reputable international and Australian wine publications.
Critic scores are converted from the traditional 80-100 point scale into a standardised 0-10 quality score. A minimum of two identifiable professional assessments is required before a verified critic average is calculated. Where insufficient data exists, the wine is clearly marked Estimate - Awaiting Confirmation. No critic scores are ever fabricated.
2. Rarity
Measures relative scarcity in the marketplace. Factors include production volumes, availability, back-vintage supply, secondary market presence, and collector ownership concentration. Higher rarity typically contributes to stronger long-term collectability.
3. Market Velocity
Measures how actively the wine trades. Factors include auction activity, secondary market transactions, retail turnover, consumer demand, and listing liquidity. Wines that consistently sell and attract buyer interest receive higher scores.
4. Producer Prestige
Assesses the long-term reputation and standing of the producer. Factors include historical performance, brand strength, critical recognition, global reputation, and market influence.
5. Vintage Strength
Measures the relative quality of the vintage within the wine's region. Factors include regional vintage reports, historical vintage rankings, growing conditions, and critical consensus.
6. Maturity & Drinking Window
Measures how closely the wine sits within its optimal drinking period. Factors include current development stage, cellaring potential, expected longevity, and market desirability at current age.

WR100 Is Separate From Valuation
The WR100 score measures quality and investment attributes. It does not determine market value.
WineRelique independently provides:
- Current Retail Value
- Auction / Secondary Market Value
- Recommended Consumer Pay
- Suggested Listing Range
This separation ensures quality assessment remains independent of pricing.
The WineRelique Principle
Quality drives the score. Market dynamics refine it.
The WR100 score combines professional wine assessment with real-world collectability factors to provide a balanced view of a wine's quality, rarity, and market standing. It is the foundation of the WineRelique valuation and brokerage platform - helping collectors understand quality, benchmark portfolios, compare wines, assess investment potential, and identify resale opportunities.
