Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair - La Romanee Grand Cru - 2019

For sheer aromatic fireworks, this is hard to beat even though the Reignots comes close. This is now much less restrained than it was last year at this time with its wonderfully spicy aromas of various dark berries and floral elements that includes notes of star anise, sandalwood, clove and hoisin. The gorgeously textured, intense and beautifully detailed middle weight flavors seem to be built on a base of minerality while exhibiting stunningly good length on the impeccably well-balanced finale that is a bit less austere than usual. Like the Reignots, this is very classy with an indescribable mix of delicacy and power. Brilliant. 98 Points Allen Meadows, Burghound
