Gerald Ellis started planting vines in his farm from 1976 onwards. At this point some would tell him it’s not possible to grow grapes here in the fierce cold of Tasmania “too wild, too unpredictable, too ‘at the edge of the world’ it can’t be done”. And this would have all been right, except for the fact that Gerald ignored all the naysayers and pursued his dream. Today the wines are made by Gerald’s daughter Mardi Ellis alongside winemaker Peter Dredge, known for being part artist, part scientist and total legend!Why do we like it?
