The story of the estate started in 1649 with Domingo de Echaniz, until today with the Txueka-Etxaniz family who have made huge efforts to preserve the Ondarrabi grape variety. This is such an important grape locally that 3 D.O.s were created for it. Txomin winery has been in the D.O. Getariako Txakolina since 1989. Since then, huge developments have been made not only in the region but all over Spain, the accession to the European Union has modernised and innovated all of the country.
Txomin has 60 hectares of vineyards on hillsides facing the sea, where they grow the Ondarrabi Zuri and Beltza varieties. These are the 2 most important grapes for Txakoli wines.
Why do we like it?
On the nose it is zesty, very citric, with notes of lemon, nashi pear and green apple matching the yellow-green colour. These wines are often fairly low in alcohol, and this is not an exception at 11%. We love the intensity, brightness and persistence of this wine, it is truly delicious. While we are still enjoying warm weather days, grab yourself a dozen fresh oysters to pair with this one, and I promise you this will work!
