2021 Suertes del Marques, ‘Vidonia’, Tenerife

Suertes del Marques is a historic winery with a rich history rooted in the Canary Islands. Located in the rugged landscape of Tenerife, the winery has been producing exceptional wines for over a century. Founded in the early 20th century, Suertes del Marques has always been committed to quality and tradition.  Over the years, the winery has evolved, embracing modern techniques while staying true to its heritage. Today, it is recognized as one of the leading producers in the region, renowned for its unique expression of local grape varietals and the volcanic terroir. Suertes del Marques has captivated us since we tried the 2016 vintage. A true winemaking legacy and dedication to excellence! Why do we like it? The training system used for that wine is called Trenzado, it is a trellis system unique to the Canary Islands. This type of trellising results in a plaited cordon with several of a single vine’s branches braided together, as you can see on the label. The wine is one of the most sought-after white of Spain, it is coming from 100 years vines of Listán Blanco from high-altitude vineyards planted on old volcanic soil. It is a fantastic wine, with a great texture and slight reductive noise (struck match aroma) combined with ripe yellow pear and chamomille and a wonderful toasty, oaky flavour along with almost a rich umami sensation and great mouthfeel. What is really remarkable is the fabulous integration of the oak!
