2021 Forjas del Salnés ‘Finca Genoveva’ Albariño, Rias Baixas, Spain

Rodrigo’s history in the area has been vital to the success of Forjas del Salnés. He was able to find and secure the use of ancient plantations, some of which were long-abandoned, and bring them back to life. He was also unafraid to innovate with Albariño and was perhaps the first in Spain to age it underwater. The philosophy of the project is to respect the authenticity of the regions traditional varieties and winemaking process. To nurture small plots resulting in wines that are a true reflection of the land, a testament to the age-old processes of natural winemaking and respect for the environment. Why do we like it? The vibrant Leirana is powerful with granite minerality, showcasing the serious style of the whites. It has an electric palate that is clean and tasty, with a stony finish. This represents the Salnés region of Rías Baixas very well. Albariño is the signature grape of Spain’s Rias Baixas region, just north of Portugal. Leirana comes from vineyards close to the sea, giving it a crisp acidic line and a saline quality. Exceptional with a sea food platter.
