Domaine Julien Cecillon was founded quite recently, in 2011 to be more exact, but Julien’s family has been documented making wine in Tournon for eleven generations! Today, Julien and his American wife Nancy Kerschen are making the wines at the estate, a love story that started while working together at a winery in California. With vineyards in the appellations of St-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage in France’s Northern Rhône Valley, the estate is dedicated to producing elegant, terroir-driven wines. Julien is the nephew of legendary Jean Louis Grippat, who is now retired but happy to come and help if necessary, by providing crucial guidance. This is in our top 3 of St Joseph producers and we can’t say enough wonderful things about their wine.
Why do we like it?
‘Les Graviers’ means ‘gravel', the winery was a former gravel warehouse, and the market square in Tournon where Julien grew up is called ‘Place des Graviers'. It is an exceptional expression of Syrah coming from three different vineyard sites in the Rhône Valley. You will be rapidly seduce by the rush of floral note of violet and lavender combined with fresh blackberries, blueberries mingle with hints of peppercorn.. It is juicy and fresh with polish tannins and a mouth-watering finish. It is simply extremely enjoyable wine which you will regret not buying more than one!
