Descendientes de Palacios is a joint venture between Alvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Perez Palacios. It was founded in 1998 for the wines of Bierzo. Alvaro is a famous name in Priorat producing some of the most premium wines of Spain. Bierzo is a hilly region, and the Palacios vineyards are located on steep hillsides with old bush vines. These are low-yielding, and give wines that are known for their juicy, dark fruit characters with hints of graphite and a dry finish.
Why do we like it?
Made from old vineyards located in various villages around the area. Vines are between 60-100 years old. The Palacios “Pétalos” will seem unfamiliar to some, but this sophisticated, nuanced wine will give you a chance to expand your horizons. Mencia can be somehow similar to a Grenache or a Pinot Noir depending on the extraction and care taken. Aromas of herbs, dried sage, red lavender, violet, pepper, and roses. The palate has nicely moderated fruit plushness in a chocolate/blackberry combination.
