2020 Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling

Eva Fricke is the daughter of two doctors, she was born in a small village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Inspired by an adventurous grandmother, she decided to take a summer job after her last year of school on a vineyard in South Africa. It was here that Eva’s love affair with the grape first began. After completing her oenological studies at Geisenheim. Eva decided it was time to gain experience around the world and did harvests in Australia, Bordeaux, Piedmont and Ribera Del Duero. Drawn to the Rheingau, she became the winemaker at Weingut Leitz. In 2006, Eva started to make her own wine as a side project from less than 0.25ha. Over the next six years she leased and purchased enough vineyard to leave Leitz and strike out on her own. From her small beginnings Eva has now built a portfolio of 17ha of vineyards and is recognize as one of the most outstanding producer of the Rheingau region. Why do we like it? The movement towards sustainability in the region is growing as a new generation look to tradition to bring out the best that the terroir can offer. Eva is at the forefront of the movement with a low intervention philosophy. The 2020 Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling is a great introduction to Eva’s wines, it is a blend from several Rheingau vineyards in Lorch, Eltville, Hattenheim and Kiedrich. There is a subtle fruit texture, a great balance between freshness and ripe fruit influence with generous aromas of peach, yellow plum and preserved lemon. The wine is precise and possesses a nervy, tense acidity.
