2020 Domaine Belargus, Anjou ‘Ronceray’

$126.00
Domaine Belargus was created recently, in 2018 to be more exact. It was a collaborative take-over of Ivan Massonat from legendary estate Pithon-Paillé with Jo Pithon (its founder) still around to help out when needed. Ivan Massonat is an incredible visionary; his focus is to magnify the great terroirs of Anjou through various single vineyards cuvées. They are soon to be cult producer in the region, while still being at an early stage. The wines have already been acclaimed by the market and more especially, in fine dining restaurants. Covering 10 hectares of the Grand Cru of Quart-de-Chaume, domaine Belargus has a huge potential which is already being tapped since we tried the first vintage of 2018. The Ronceray comes from all their plots of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation, with a long elevage and great quality oak, the wine is as close as you will get from a great Burgundy but with more Chenin influence obviously. Why do we like it? The Ronceray comes from all their plots of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation, with a long elevage and great quality oak, the wine is as close as you will get from a great Burgundy but with more Chenin influence obviously. A touch of sweet yellow apple, fresh quince and chamomile are welcomed along with the toasty and slight smokiness of the oak. It is as refined as you will find in Anjou with an incredible mid-palate, length and mouthfeel. You can definitely enjoy the wine now, but you could also easily keep it in the cellar for another 10 years.    Grape            Chenin Blanc Country        France                                  Region          Loire Valley                                      Vintage         2020
