Veteran winemaker, Jacques Borman, established Boschkloof in 1996 to pursue his dream of starting his own family winery. His son, Reenen Borman, joined the family business in 2010 and took over the winemaking duties in 2012. Together their aim is to make site-specific wines and to showcase the beautiful soils their vineyards grow in.
This wine was made from two different clones of Syrah and every grape was harvested by hand. The yield was moderate at 6 tons per hectare. Natural fermentation, no yeast added. Skin contact for 11 days after alcoholic fermentation with malolactic fermentation taking place in barrel. Carefully matured in 10% new French 225l barrels for 14 months. Minimum filtration before bottling.
Why do we like it?
It is a beautiful wine with plenty vibrant red and black fruit aromas, it is juicy, elegant, and silky at the same time. Fine tannins make it so approachable to drink right now. As the wine has four years of age, is perfectly ready for drinking, but if you do want to keep it another two years it is fine too.
