Château d’Épiré is one of the oldest domaines in Savennières, represented now by the 5th generation. Their winery is an old church of remarkable architecture which dates back from the 12th century! The appellation of Savennières is located north of the Loire River, southwest of Angers. It benefits from a unique microclimate and schist soil which, combined with the Chenin Blanc grape, gives Savennières the chance to stand out from the crowd.
Why do we like it?
The Cuvée Spécial is sourced from the domaine best’s vineyard, Le Hu-Boyau which is very well exposed and overlooking the wonderful Loire River. If you are looking for an alternative to Burgundy, then this is your wine. It is aged for up to 9 months sure lie in a combination of old 440-liters chestnut, acacia, and oak demi-muids. Full-bodied with aromas of lemon curd, quince and honeyed ginger, the wine shows a great tension and a dazzling length. An added bonus, it’s so versatile at the table, a must-try!
