Scarzello - Barolo Sarmassa 'Vigna Merenda' DOCG - 2016

The four small plots of Vigna Merenda that produce this wine come from the best part of Sarmassa. This 2016 is again just great; soil driven with a hint of iodine and tar with lots of chalky minerality. Very poised and composed with really lovely purity of fruit in the mouth. Suspended from a firm but lacy structure that lends this lovely texture and a real transparency here. Tobacco aromas emerge as well and on the palate there's really super ripeness here, layered, with later arriving cherry and wild strawberry fruit with a complex and sensual finish.
